UK consumers over 50 spend almost twice as much on recreation and culture than those under 30.
According to the ONS Family Spending report people over 50 spend £81 per week on recreation and culture vs only £44 spent by the Under 30 age group.
Over 50s spend more than the young shoppers in all categories including tickets for events & cinema, TVs and computers. The young age group invest more in games, software and sports equipment.
However, when it comes to eating out we can see slightly different trends. Under 30s spend £46 per week on food and drink in restaurants and bars – whilst over 50s only spend £37.
Leisure operators must ensure their offer attracts this affluent older audience.
